I have an ancestor called John Hoffman who was married first to a Ruth Hoffman, then to an Agnes Prideaux/Doe. Records are confusing and conflicting, as I've read that he was from a place called 'Elsentia' (he described his father as 'a merchant of Elsentia' which was supposedly in the German Palatinate, however I've also read that he could have been born in Lviv, Ukraine. I suppose it is possible that he was born in Ukraine but that his nationality was German? I'm honestly not sure! Ancestry doesn't provide much information about John or his father aside from what I just listed above, his wife is also a bit of a mystery (I'm wondering if she could have been related to the famous Prideaux family of Devon/Cornwall?). Their daughter Ellanor/Eleanor Hoffman is my direct ancestor. I read his Last Will and Testament online as well as a publication supposedly written by him about the principles of Christianity. He studied at Exeter College, Oxford and later became rector of Wootton church, Oxfordshire. I am fascinated and intrigued by John's life and where he came from, so if anyone has any further info please let me know!!
