I found some information on andrew nugent and I hope somebody can finish
on this information on the nugent family tree. This is what my mother
had on andrews' background. ANDREW- His ancestors came from ireland. An
ancestor of andrew's supposedly was a court jestor to a king in ireland.
The name of nugent originally was french which means a low meadow which
frequently inundated. Nogent or Nugent is the name of many towns or vil-
lages built on the banks of rivers, in a pleasant position, such as nogent-sur-seine, nogent-sur-marne, etc. The family is a branch of the great house of belesme, being descended from fulke de belesme, lord of
nogent le rotrou, who accompanied william of normandy and fought at the
battle of hastings in 1066. Some of his descendants assumed the surname
of nogent or nugent and two of them, gilbert and hugh de nugent, cousins
founded the name in ireland temp. Some say that this family is descended
from the ancient dukes of lorraine, and that sir gilbert de nogent, with
his brother richard de capelle and two other gentleman of their name,
came into ireland withsir hugh de lacy, who gave the said gilbert, one
of his daughters in marriage, andas a marriage portion with her, the barony of delvin--- as in the following deed: "DE omnes terras et tene-
ments quoe quoedon o'finelan, habuit, file it consanguineo meo gilbert
de nogent". The said sir gilbert, having died without issue, left the es
tates to his brother richard de capelle, lord justice of ireland, whose daughter and only heir being married to baron jones, he became,
in her right, baron of devlin; which title continued in the family for
four generations, until by the failure of heirs, male, and the marri-
age of catherine, daughter and sole heir of the last baron jones, to
william nogent, of bracelon, descended from said gilbert, or from one
of his kinsmen, who came with him to ireland. The estate and honores
returned to the nogent family. This william nogent was the first who
assumed the name nugent and fifth in descent from conner o'conner,
king of meath, who was a brother of cathal (or charles) craobhdearg,
the fifty-first christian king of connought.
Andrew NUGENT,SR. was an early pioneer of hamilton co. ohio having
been born in lancaster co. pa. and emigrated to ohio about the year
1812

I am looking for a family member that has some information on the nugent
family from cleves,ohio. The information I have on andrew nugent which
was my mothers great grandfather is: ANDREW NUGENT born: May 12, 1842
in Ohio, died: Feb. 6,1927. Age 84yrs 7mo 26days. Married LUCY BINGLE-
daughter of James BINGLE and Mary Lambert. born: 1854 miamitown, ohio
died: Jan. 27,1927. Age 72yrs 4mo 20days. Had one daughter by the name
of Mary born:1872 (1880 census) died: unknown date.
