The latest information I have on Michael Walsh (my great grandfather)comes from family oral tradition. In short Michael's parents headstone is in a local cemetery in St. John's, Newfoundland and it gives Patrick's birthplace as Kilkenny and Mary's birthplace as Waterford. My brick wall just lost a few bricks.
Hello, I am looking for anyone who can direct me to a source where I could obtain the Baptismal record for my Great Grandfather, Michael Walsh, who was baptized in an RC Church in An Rinn Parish, County Waterford, Ireland. Michael was the son of Patrick Walsh and Mary Pole of Upper Helvick and was baptized in 1838. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated here in Newfoundland (Talamh An Eisc).
Seems I jumped to an erroneous conclusion when I posted my ancestry news. My ancestor, Michael Walsh, was not from Dungarvan - he was from Upper Helvick, An Rinn, County Waterford, the son of Patrick Walsh and Mary Pole. This shows the risk of being impatient when you hit a brick wall and accept the best acceptable conclusion at hand.
Michael Walsh, my Great Grandfather, was born on January 25, 1838 in Abbeyside/Ring Parish of John Walsh and Mary Kelly on January 25, 1838. He was baptized at St. Mary's Church in Dungarvan and emigrated to N.Y. (Castle Garden), U.S.A.on January 23, 1851 from Liverpool on board of the ship Colonist.
Looking for help in locating records for a Michael Walsh born in 1838 or 1839 in County Waterford with parents Patrick and Mary Walsh. Anybody out there who can help?
One of the most challenging aspects of my search for my family's history is the trying to discover the roots of my Grandmother's family. The problem with my Grandmother's lineage is, in the words of my Dad, "she had so many names she didn't know who she was". Dad's mother was Sarah Jane Pike Sheehan Snow Walsh, to make matters worse she went by the first name of Genevieve. We have no record of that name for her. Sarah married my Grandfather, Patrick Walsh, in Cambridge, Mass. in 1891 and lived there for a number of years until they moved back to Newfoundland. Sarah was born in Boston or Cambridge in 1876 and married Patrick Walsh there in 1891. Patrick was from St. John's, Newfoundland and was born there in 1871.Patrick was the son of Michael Walsh and Johanna Quinn (both from Ireland). Sarah's mother, Elizabeth Sheehan, was from Harbour Grace, Newfoundland. Her mother, Anna Dora Sheehan, was born in 1845 and died in 1923. We are told that Elizabeth was also born in Boston or Cambridge and returned to Harbour Grace, Newfoundland.
The point of all this is that when both Sarah and her mother, Elizabeth, became pregnant they were both sent to Boston or Cambridge to have their children ------ there must have been a Sheehan family in Boston or Cambridge to take my Grandmother and Great Grandmother in ------ that is the connection I am looking for and cannot find. (the foregoing is only a small part of a long and confusing story).
I've been looking for my Great Grandfather, Michael Walsh, born in County Waterford, Ireland in 1838 or 1839. I have it from my Father (sadly deceased)that Michael's Father was Patrick Walsh from "Waterford" and his wife was Mary
(no maiden name indicated). Michael was married in Newfoundland in 1871 to Johanna Quinn at the RC Basilica in St. John's, Newfoundland. Sadly Michael drowned in the Bay of Gibraltar on February 2, 1885 at the age 0f 46 (or 47). He was bosun on board the ship Spark. The couple had a number of children, including my Grandfather, Patrick Walsh, who were all born in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. Any help in finding Michael would be appreciated.
Looking for a Michael Walsh (my great Grandfather) born in County Waterford County in 1838 or 1839. Probably son of Patrick and Mary Walsh in County Waterford.
