looking for more on henry stroub , the nice shoemaker... and jacob stroub, the sailmaker

hello, i have quite a bit of info to share and would be glad to.
my daily search has led me to a few walls. they are:

henry stroub my 3rd great grandfather. i have him married to margaret, but cant find him prior to 1800.

jacob stroub., henry's son ....did he get shipwrecked ?
do you have any info on them?

here is an exerpt from a recent post i made,it gives a little more info.....
jacob stroub left new york city for california for gold in 1849, no one in the family saw him since. his wife julia hoyt's roots go back to the revolutionary war and beyond. jacobs parents were henry stroub (1770-1863) and margaret sandford (1776-1865) henry was a shoemaker in new york since at least 1801 when they were married . i believe he came from charleston , south carolina but am still trying to confirm this.
margaret's father, perigrine sandford (and all of his hiers after his death) were in a position to try to sue for the rights to the estate some 50 years after perigrines death. the estate was a farm from the early 1700's in the heart of the future downtown newark commercial/industrial zone! i have newspaper articles that show their desire to pursue the suit, but don't know what happened. did they eventually sue?

i descend from jacob's nephew, john l. stroub (1839-1902). john was a restaurant owner, stroubs oyster bay in new york. among other things. i am also looking to share info on john l. , or his wife, phoebe allison taylor (1836-1881).
thank you, bob stroub

update 12/29/13.... i have found jacob died nov 20, 1849 in sf,ca, however don't know how!
