I am looking for information on my paternal great-grandfather, Alexander Robertson. Birth Oct 23, 1879 in New Pitsligo, Scotland, Died July 30, 1964 in Toronto, Ont. Canada.

I paid for some research years ago (unfortunately did not receive any hard copies of the findings) and was told that he was the illegitimate child of Margaret Hutcheon Rollo, dob March 1860, New Pitsligo, Scotland and Alexander Murray Robertson, July 1860, Pitsligo, Scotland. They never married and it appears than when Margaret married a couple of years later Alexander was given to another family to raise. This research was from St. Nicholas Registra Records, 21.8.1903 at Gairs Cafe, Exchange Street, Aberdeen

He was married in Scotland in 1903 to Elizabeth Shand Mackie and apparently he immigrated to Canada in 1913 or 1914.

I was also told he served in the Boer War in 1899/1900 in the 2nd Battalion Gordon Highlanders under the command of Lt. Col. William Dick Cunnygham and H.W.D. Dennie. Apparently he fought in the battle of Elandslaagte on Oct 21, 1899. I have researched this and cannot find any information proving he was.

I have searched everywhere with no luck proving any of the above. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Scottish Birth Certificates 1879

Can someone recommend how I find a birth certificate for my GGF, born in Scotland 1879. I cannot find it on any of the typical sites, and see I can order one but there is a cost for that. I just want to see a copy of it.
Thanks for your help
