Tom McMillan Ancestry, Washington, Oregon, Minnesota, Ontario, Quebec, Ireland, Scotland, England, Germany

I am Tom McMillan, and live in Washougal, Washington near where I've lived most of my life.

My McMillan's came out of St Paul, Minnesota. My Great Grandfather was William John McMillan, who was a conductor for the Great Northern Railway from 1879 until about 1916. He was conductor for some of James J Hill's personal trips. He also started the Veteran's Association of the Great Northern Railway in 1913, and was President most of the balance of his life which ended in 1930.

Great Grandpa and Grandma (Great Grandma was maiden name Anderson Todd born in Scotland about 1841), had nine children, 6 boys and 3 girls. All but one boy worked for the railroad. Great Grandpa was born in Montreal or Quebec City in 1847.

William John married Anderson in Fergus, Wellington County, Ontario in 1867. They lived there and perhaps in Palmerston until 1879 when William John started work in Minnesota, and Anderson and children followed in 1880.

William John's Father was John McMullan and Mother Margaret Orr. John and Margaret married in 1844 at the Cathedral (Church of Ireland) in Downpatrick, County Down, Ireland. They had a Son Arthur in 1845 and emigrated about 1847. Another Son was born about 1853 in Kingston, Ontario.

We feel our McMullan's originated in Scotland, but don't yet know the connection or timing.

Hope to hear from others who may have similar ancestry.
