John Alexander Finlayson/Rebecca Johnston NZ marriage cert

Yet another mistake that could help someone else.

This marriage certificate was in the district of Geraldine, on the 23 Nov 1899

John Alexander Finlayson, shepherd, originally born Strathspeffer, Ross-shire,but living in Arundel at time of marriage. His parents are Roderick Finlayson, a school master, and Janet Irvine.

Rebecca Johnston, a widow, whose husband died 4 July 1895, originally born Costbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland, also now living in Arundel. Her parents are Robert Waugh, a storekeeper, and Janet Finley

Hope this is useful to someone.

John Johnston/Mary Magee Marriage NZ 1892

Hi
Another red herring for me but maybe useful for someone else.

John Johnston a miner from Brunnerton, West Coast, NZ married Mary Magee also from Brunnerton at the Roman Catholic Church, Brunnerton, 25 April 1892.

John's parents are William Johnston, a shoemaker from Brunnerton, and Sarah Ganey

Mary's parents are Bernard Magee, a miner from Brunnerton and Mary O Donnell.

One of the witnesses is Thomas Joseph Magee presumably a son of Bernard.

John Johnston/Eliza Jane Brown, Australia and New Zealand

I have a marriage certificate for John Johnston and Eliza Jane Brown married 26th July 1887 in Wanganui, New Zealand which I ordered thinking this was the John from my tree. These are the details in case this is someone elses John or Eliza Jane.
John was born in Braidwood NSW, Australia and his parents are John Johnston and Mary Lahey. Eliza was born in Tasmania and her parents are James Brown and MaryAnne Dainty. John was a post office clerk in Wanganui but they later moved to Wellington. John died in 19 March 1933 aged 75 - there is a little write up about him in the Evening Post on 20 March 1933. Eliza Jane died around the 7 May 1945 also aged 75. Both are buried in Karori Cemetery Wellington.
They had three children: Jamie Annie 1893,
Gladys Mary 1895
John James 1906.
Jamie annie married Paul Hiram Leslie John Simpson and lived in Auckland - her name is listed as Jennie in the online marriages.
John James married Thelma May Murdoch in 1932.
Not sure what happened to Gladys.
Hope this is useful to someone.

anyone going to (PROV)Public Record Office Victoria

Hi, I found that the record I am looking for can actually be accessed in PROV, but being in NZ it's a bit far for me to go. Is anyone in Melbourne planning a visit there sometime? I'm not sure if there are costs involved but I would obviously be willing to pay any expenses.

The records I am after are in the
"Children?s Registers of State Wards in Victoria, Australia between 1850 and 1893"
volume no. OS3, page no. 234.

I'm looking for a Richard Johnston who claims he was born in Melbourne in 1862, father John. The only record that has come close to this is an entry in the
"Children?s Registers of State Wards in Victoria, Australia between 1850 and 1893" indexes which lists a Richard Johnston born 1861. The same records also have a
John Johnston born 1859 which I think could be Richard's brother. The reference for them both is volume no. OS3, page no. 234.
I think their mother might be Sarah, who died in 1863, so maybe the boys were put into an institution - just guessing here.
Is there anyone who could help with this? Thanks
Debbie
