Thankyou very much I have added in what I didn't know. i think Elizabeth Early. From the post above died in 1875. I can tell you more about their kids if you want. But my family probably wouldn't interest you. So if you don't want to know anything that fine. You are such a great person just helping out other people to be nice. Keep it up. I am sure I have used way to much of your time. But for the time you gave it has helped me sugnificantly. Thanks.

Is this possibly the marriage for Samuel & Elizabeth

Marriages Sep 1838
CLAY Elizabeth Ringwood 8 243
EARLY Samuel Ringwood 8 243

Does the birth certificate for Eliza and other children have Elizabeth's maiden name as Goss.

by ngairedith on 2014-05-23 22:30:26

think you may be right...
so, Elizabeth's MUM was Susan Goss and she married a Clay, making Elizabeth a Clay when she married Samuel Early in Ringwood, Hampshire 26 July 1838 ??

good for you
how about showing us what you have in this branch of the family tree
do you have it on line and could send a link? or perhaps post a journal here about what you do have

by pizzathecat on 2014-05-23 22:41:29

Yes the marriage date you have is right. Elizabeth Clay's dad was Stephen Clay. Susan Goss's dad was James Goss and Elizabeths mum was Susan Smith.

by pizzathecat on 2014-05-23 22:44:57

Asheppard I think we might be looking at the same marriage. Where did you get the marriage as Sep 1838. Because I got 26 July 1838. You might be right though. I haven't got the birth Certificate of Elizabeth Sorry. I got most of my information on a book about the Early Family. The book was by Margaret Enticott (Nee Early).

by pizzathecat on 2014-05-24 01:12:59

Sorry I can't give you a link ngairedith. I do most of my family tree on Legacy Tree. Legacy is just for the computer and doesn't use internet.
I will try and add what I do have. Thanks

by asheppard on 2014-05-26 03:31:20

The marriage is from the freebmd.org.uk website it says it was registered in Sep 1838 but the actual marriage date could be 26 July 1838.

It doesn't show actual dates they only supply you with the month, year, registry office and the GRO References so you can purchase the certificate for more details.

Does anyone know anything

by hjcnz on 2015-05-07 12:04:42

Hello
I am trying to find more information about James Carr (approx. 1835 - 1929), who married Elizabeth Ann Early (1842 - 1936). I have the Early history and appreciate what I have learnt on this page, but no information about where James Carr came from before he married Elizabeth Ann Early in Canterbury. We have a Carr family reunion in July and I would love to be able to share how the original Carr arrived in New Zealand.

Please let me know if you have any information that can help, thank you
Hilary

Hi hjcnz, Good to hear from you again.
I am sorry but I don't know much about James Carr. I do know that he was born in 1834. He married Elizabeth on 7 April 1862 in the Avonside Anglican Church, Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand. James died 1 March 1929 in Christchurch. He came to New Zealand on a boat called the Clontarf. He was on the same boat as the Early family and met Elizabeth on the boat. James was one of the first owners of Flaxton, New Zealand. I have found a record that COULD be him. James Carr born 1 April 1834 in Ireland. This could be him. Great to hear from you again. I can add all the birth years and death years for the people above. Hope this helps

Your sincerely David

I have updated all of the people, I can keep adding more if anyone finds this useful.

Hi David, thank you for more information on James Carr. I looked through the Clontarf immigration list on http://christchurchcitylibraries.com/Heritage/Digitised/Emigration/EmbarkationLists/Clontarf-1859/ and James Carr isn't mentioned.
It is also listed for two crossings in 1859 and 1860 and James Carr isn't mentioned http://www.yesteryears.co.nz/shipping/passlists/clontarf.html
So I'm not sure that James Carr did arrive on the Clontarf, unless he worked passage as a sailor possibly, and wasn't included on the immigration list?

I am coming on a holiday to the South Island, and might try to do some investigation while visiting to see if there are any papers that might help find James Carr origins.

Thank you
Hiary

Hi David
I just found information on http://www.shipsnostalgia.com/showthread.php?t=37539 where someone has a diary of their ancestor on the Clontarf, however the person isn't on any list as he travelled 'Deck Saloon'. Perhaps this is what James Carr did.

Cheers
Hilary
