JANGRO Surname

Definition: The name Jangro comes from Gingras, then Jangreau.

Surname Origin:
"The Jangro families are of John Jangreau and Nancy Parker who married, lived, and are buried in Greenfield, Massachusetts. John is the son of Joseph Gingras and Theotiste Seguin. There are a number of Jangro families mostly in New England and New York. A search for the connection to Gingras was interesting. The current Jangro families knew their origin at Greenfield and that they were of the Gingras clan. However, we could not identify the actual connection. Based on information from Raymond Gingras I knew that John had died at Winchendon, Massachusetts. On the chance that I might get a lead, I went to Winchendon and found the death record. His parents were identified as Joseph Jangro and Thesota Seeing. I had a number of marriages in the area of Springfield and Holyoke who gave the parents as Joseph and Theotiste (no maiden name given). On returning home and looking for the Joseph and Theotiste combination I found the marriage to a Theotiste Seguin. I gave it a French pronunciation and quickly realized that Seeing was in fact Seguin; the French slide over the g making it sound like another e."
