George FARQUHAR (1850-1935) was born in Midmar, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He arrived in Dunedin on the 'Janet Court' 29 May 1874.
He married Isabella Strachan WAUGH (1863-1942) in Otago, 5 Dec 1888.
Isabella was born 17 Aug 1863 in East Tairei, Otago to James Healing Waugh (1842-1924) & Mary Strachan (1837-1911)

* George served in WWI as Private 49881 with the 26th Reinforcements, Wellington Infantry Regiment, B Company, NZEF. He embarked in 1917. His brother James William was his next of kin at Highcliff, Otago
* In 1919 he was awarded a Croix de guerre (Belgian)
George married Agnes MARSHALL (1903-1974) in 1927. Agnes was born in NZ to David & Agnes Marshall (buried Green Island)

1895 - 1957 Jessie Leaden Farquhar

Jessie had 2 children
* 1917 - Hazel Lindsay Farquhar, born 19 July 1917 in Timaru and fostered out. Hazel married John Marshall Roberts (1911-1969) in 1935. John died 5 Aug 1969 aged 58. His last address was 46 Church St., Mosgiel and his ashes were scattered. It is recorded on the database that he was an invalid, unknown if this was during the war. Hazel's burial not found. She may have remarried.
* 1920 - 1920 A stillborn son was born 19 March 1920 in Waimatuku while Jessie was working as a domestic servant 'in the country'. A month later, on 17 April, Jessie pleaded guilty at the Invercargill Police Court to a charge of 'concealment of birth' and was held in custody for 2 months, committed to appear for sentencing, at the next sitting of the Invercargill Supreme Court. On 27 May one of the cases set down for hearing was Jessie L. Farquhar. Her sentence to be handed down in the 'concealment of birth' criminal charge. She appeared on 2 June 1920. Counsel said that he had a letter from the father responsible expressing intention to marry, but he had not answered any correspondence since and he didn't know where he was. The sentence was that Jessie be released on probation, in the care of her mother, for a term of two years, a condition being that she should be of good behaviour. The Probation Officer said that there was no woman in Invercargill in whose charge such girls could be placed but he understood that there was a woman in Dunedin where the prisoner would go with her mother.
Jessie married William Arthur WILDEN (1893-1983) 2 Aug 1922. William was born in NZ to Thomas Andrew Wilden (1868-1947) & Eliza Mary Fisher (1866-1945).
William served as Rifleman 24/1230 with the D Company, 2nd Battalion, NZRB. His next of kin was his father Thomas at 13 Josephine St., Caversham, Dunedin.

Jessie's ex husband, William Arthur Wilden, died 3 Aug 1983 in Dunedin. He is buried Plots 3 & 4, Block 7172, at Green Island Cemetery with Margaret Grace Wilden (1908-1985) (2nd wife/partner). Margaret was born 25 Dec 1908 & died 12 March 1985 in Chalet Private Hospital, Dunedin aged 76. Headstone reads she was 72.

Jessie's son in law, Alexander William Keith, was a son of Ivan Robert Keith (1890-1978) & Jane nee Munro (1893-1980), farmers at Berwick, Waipori, Otago. Jane Munro had a sister, Bella Munro (1890-1972), who married Robert Baxter Neill (1885-1963) and she later became the mother-in-law of Edith Joy Wilden (2nd marriage), see below

Hilda was born 5 July 1929. She married Russell James Brinsdon (1930-2010).

Their father, Ivan Robert Keith was a son of Alexander William 'Sandy' Keith (1853-1927) & Ellen Atkins (1863-1958), of Clyde, grandparents of those above, who died Tokoiti, buried Fairfax cemetery, Milton.

Robert died 17 June 1968 aged 66 in Wellington.

Mr GEORGE FARQUHAR
The death occurred at his residence, Highcliff Road, on Saturday morning of Mr George Farquhar, an old and respected resident of Otago Peninsula. Born in the village of Midmar, Aberdeen in 1850, he arrived in New Zealand by the Janet Court in May 1872. After serving a short period in the employ of Mr Robertson, of Seal Point, he purchased a property at Highcliff and, with the exception of four years residence at Napier in the employ of Messrs Williams and Kettle, he had spent the whole of his New Zealand life on the Peninsula. He was the first man to make cheese on the Otago Peninsula, the work being carried out in a building where the present Pukehiki Library now stands. He was one of the founders of the Otago Peninsula A and P Society and was for many years a member of the Highcliff School Committee. He leaves a widow and a grown-up family of four sons and five daughters, one daughter (Nellie) having predeceased him some months ago.

'At Rest.' The Funeral will leave the residence of her daughter on Monday the 21st inst., at 2p.m., for the Anderson's Bay Cemetery.

Mrs ISABELLA S. FARQUHAR
The death occurred early on Saturday morning of Mrs Isabella S. Farquhar, an old and highly-respected resident of Otago Peninsula. Born at East Taieri in 1863, Mrs Farquhar was the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs James Waugh, who arrived in Otago from Scotland in 1858. Later the deceased's parents removed to Highcliff and, with the exception of the last few years, Mrs Farquhar had been a resident of the Peninsula all her life. She was one of the first pupils to attend the Highcliff School, which held its seventieth jubilee a little over a year ago. She was possessed of a kind and lovable nature and will be sincerely mourned by a large circle of friends. She is survived by a family of four sons and five daughters and 21 grandchildren.
