He was a prisoner of war at Andersonville,Georgia at the end of the Civil War--he was alive at that time in 1865. He and his wife disappear between 1865 and 1870 as their two children are living with his father Duncan Courtney in Gallatin county, Kentucky in the 1870 census. They continue to live with other relatives after that so they must have died and probably together. I only have access through several internet sources and have exhausted those in trying to find out their fate. Can anyone in Kentucky who has access to newspaper files from that time in the Warsaw area or death files help me to uncover this mystery? jowenj@comcast.net

Looking for ANY information on the Courtney families of Harrison or Gallatin counties, Kentucky, or possibly across the border in Indiana, specifically Switzerland county. John Courtney and his wife Barbara "Polly" Duncan from the late 1700's are the earliest I am aware of but have little info on them. Their son Duncan Courtney and wife Mary Gordon, I have quite a bit on. The one I am most interested in is their son George W Courtney and his wife Mary Webber. I have some info up until he is wounded and captured during the Civil War--he was in the Indiana Volunteer Militia--Switzerland county, Indiana was just across the river from his home in Gallatin county, Kentucky and he went there to join the Federal Army. He is a prisoner of war at Andersonville prison in Georgia at the end of the war but disappears after that as does his wife. I am sure they both died between 1865 and 1870 and probably together because their two children are living with his father, Duncan in 1870 and other relatives after that.
