Richard ROWLAND - arrived in FREMANTLE February 3 1830 on the brig TRANBY

Richard ROWLAND is buried with his wife Elizabeth and other family members in the DONGARA CEMETERY

his anniversay notice appeared in the INQUIRER & COMMERCIAL NEWS, on 14 January 1880 read:

Dongarra, January 13.
... Mr and Mrs Richard Rowland are celebrating their golden wedding to-day. Being old and much estemed and respected settlers they are receiving hearty congratulations from all around them. They arrived in the colony in the brig Tranby, from Hull, early in 1830; and if they live till the 3rd of next month they will have been exactly fifty years in the colony

his Death Notice from the INQUIRER & COMMERCIAL NEWS, on 29 August 1883 read:

DONGARA NOTES
... I am sorry to inform you of the death of an old and much-respected settler, in the person of Mr Richard Rowland. You must have known him well while he lived in Perth and on the Peninsula.
Mr Rowland arrived in the colony by the brig, 'Tranby', on the 3rd February, 1830.
He had his full share of the troubles, difficulties and losses the early settlers had to contend with; he experienced many losses both fire and water, having been burnt clean out no less that three times - once on the Peninsula and twice in this district; he also lost a considerable amount of property by a flood in the Irwin River some years ago, which carried away haystacks, stables, and other property, but, in spite of bad seasons and other difficulties, he surmounted them by constant perseverance and honest industry.
As a settler, he undertook his part in the management of the affairs of this district; and took a great interest in everything which conduced to the welfare and advancement of it, while he was one of those men the colony can ill afford to lose.
He led an honest, sober, exemplary, truly Christian life; indeed, his character was unimpeachable.
He has left a large family of grown-up sons and daughters and whose example they will do well to follow.
He has been married upwards of 54 years, and, not withstanding adverse circumstances, leaves his widow comfortably provided for.
He lived to a good round old age, and enjoyed comparatively good health almost to the last.

RICHARD SOUTHEE 1804 Kent, England to 1873 Victoria, Australia - via St Petersburg

Dr Richard Southee was born in 1804 In Bekesbourne, Kent, England.
His parents were John Southee and Charlotte Brice.

The Doctor and his wife Martha Hatfield had two children:
Martha Amelia born 1831, and Richard Brice born 1838 and christened Richard Brice John Elistrateff SOUTHEE at the British Chaplaincy in St. Petersburg, Russia on 15th May 1846.

Dr Richard Southee is mentioned a few times on the net as born in 1799 - this is incorrect.

He died in Marjorca - 172km NW of Melbourne on 12th June 1873

I would like to know more of his parents, his siblings and why his son was christened in Russia - was he also born there?

Who was his wife Martha Hatfield, where did they marry and where were his children born?

... BLENHEIM this day - Richard Watson Parker, a storekeeper, 64 years of age, a very old resident of the district, died suddenly this morning from heart disease while engaged in turning some hay in a paddock

PARKER, Richard Watson
... It is our painful dity to-day to announce the death of Mr Richard Watson Parker, storekeeper, of Grove road, which occurred suddenly this morning. The deceased was engaged with Mr W. Mills, one of his employees, turning hay in his paddock in Hutcheson street. They were working at opposite ends of a row, intending to meet in the middle of the row, and on looking up Mr Mills saw that Mr Parker had fallen; and found on going over to him that he was quite dead. The cause of death was heart disease. Deceased was sixty-four years of age on the 4th inst., and had not been ailing to the time of his death. Yesterday he was out and about as usual.
Mr Parker first arrived in Marlborough in 1865 from Australia, and about 1866 embarked in partnersihp with his brother, Mr W. B. Parker, in the business of general storekeeper. The partnership was dissolved in 1883, the deceased keeping on the business, in which he has continued up to the present time. He was also connected as a contractor with the formation of the Blenheim-Awatere railway, but unfortunately, the venture did not turn out successfully.
Mr Parker did not actively engage in local politics, although he served two terms of office on the local River Board, during the second term occupying the office of Chairman of the Board. He was highly esteemed and respected for his many good qualities by a large circle of friends, who will extend their hearty sympathy to his widow and family of seven daughters in their sad bereavement.
In consequence of Mr Parker's death the social to have been held in Wesley hall on Wednesday evening, and also the meeting of the W.C.T.U. to-morrow, have been postponed
