Am looking to find when n how Corneles van der Maal came to Australia? He is listed as a storekeeper in Jerilderie 1872 on the Greville .

I'll have through immigration look for you. His wife was Margaret Irvine 1838-1886 she died at Jerilderie. They'd been married in Victoria in 1866 so maybe after her death he went back there.

He was dutch died at Parkes in 1922 father's name Ambrose Mother Gertrude. He came from Zuilen, Utrecht, Netherlands Haven't found when. Yet

You may misunderstand the above It was Ambrose who lived in Zuile. Colonial censuses before 1871 give no figures for Dutch-born settlers. However, the Dutch settlers naturalised in New South Wales between 1845 and 1905 mostly arrived during the peak gold rush years 1851 to 1861 and all but one were male. They waited about 20 years before being naturalised and there is no accurate information on their original professions. From family historical sources, it seems that the majority of Dutch diggers were mariners who jumped ship in Australia. Many from Batavia. I can't find any naturalisation record for Cornelius. Found a bankruptsy record in 1906.

That is wonderful stuff! Thank you....I did not know where Ambrose came from in Holland. Cornelius' wife was Margareth Irvine from Enniskillen Ireland, although I cannot locate same...how n when she came to Australia. Many thanks!!!
