Hi,

What country are the Rimmer family from. A tiny bit more information and I'm sure either myself or another member will be able to help.

As they all died in 1954, was this some kind of accident? Any information you know will help, such as are they parents and children or brothers and sisters?

Look forward to your reply and helping you with your research.

Hi Diane

What an awful accident. I can understand why you didn't want to ask your dad. I'll do some research and get back to you as soon as possible.

Hi,

Well the deaths made the newspapers as you said, even made the Australian papers. The story being reported is that Britain was having an awful winter and on 8 Feb 1954 there was a sudden thaw which caused 8 deaths. This is what it says about the Rimmer family

The deaths occurred at
Kirkdale, near Liverpool,
when ice sealing a frost
cracked gas main melted.
The gas leaked into a
home, killing a dock labourer.
Henry Rimmer, 45, and his
sons, James, 5, and Allan,
12 months.

No mention of Helen in that report.

The death register has Henry Rimmer as 43, Alan as 1 and shows James G Rimmer 5. No death of a Helen but there is one for Ellen Rimmer which would fit because looking at the marriages there is one for Henry Rimmer to Ellen Dowd in Liverpool 1935.

Children of Henry and Ellen:
Henry Rimmer 1935
David Rimmer 1938
James G Rimmer 1949
Alan Rimmer 1953

Had a look at probate for Henry Rimmer and it says as follows:

Rimmer Henry of 3 Ceres Street, Liverpool, died 7 Feb 1954 Administration, Liverpool 19 June 1954 to Annie Dowd (wife of David Dowd) and the said David Dowd, dock labourer. Effects ?300

So now you just need burial details. Local newspapers may have a funeral announcement but I can't research those on line as Liverpool stops at 1952 at the moment. I shall have a search tomorrow on some burial indexs and let you know.

I hope the information I have given you so far has help
