I am trying to establish a link between Coit/Coite families in the UK, and those in France and the USA.

Question by

The spelling of the Coite surname kept changing through the centuries, making research difficult. My Grandfather was COIT, but my Father was COITE. Surnames of COYTE and COYT are also recorded. Is there a connection between the Coits who were in Wales in the 1600's, and who seemed to completely vanish, and those who sailed to America at the time of the Pilgrim Fathers?
Also. I have found many Coite families in France, but don't know how to start to find any shared ancestry with them all. I am researching alone, and cannot travel to find records.
Will appreciate any suggestions.
