a Frenchman.
When searching for different name variations on Ancestry I discovered a Henry DeBells arrived in Australia in 1836 aboard the Swallow ex Madras. A further search in Ancestry finds a record for a Henry De Bels and his conviction of larceny in Madras and his subsequent conviction of 7 years to the convict colonies. Ancestry also notes that this Henry was born in Amsterdam. Do you think this could be the same person? Short of ordering his death certificate, which may not contain his birth place, what direction would you take on this research?
