Dustbowl from NSW

I'm from NSW also and came to a stop in my family history until I saw this Journal from you.
I was told of my ancestry on my father's side that I have a Jeremiah Barry from the Binalong area.
The only information I had was that my father's grandmother was a Barry, born about 1854, and that her father was Jeremiah Barry from Tipperary, Ireland. He was married to Honora.
I found on the NSW BMD that Darby Barry married Honora Hannan in 1854 at Catholic Church in Yass.
Also on NSW BMD, Darby & Honora had Thomas (b 1845), Catherine (b 1847) and Margaret (b 1849. Then in NSW BMD Jeremiah & Honora had Mary (1852), Honora (b 1854) and Ellen (b 1859). From another source Jeremiah & Honora probably had anither child - Jeremiah (b 1863).

The information you supply identifies to me the arrival of Darby(Jeremiah) to Australia.
Do you have any more information that would be useful??

I note that there is another Journal titled "looking for BARRY of Binalong" by cooee of NSW. The person cooee is looking for could be the Catherine (b 1847) I identified.

Hi, I am descended from Lawrence Barry & Mary Russell. Three brothers were transported from Tipperary, Ireland on board "Eliza 11" date of arrival was 6 September 1832. Trial date 18 March 1832. Lawrence 25, James 21, Darby 19, along with 6 others were tried for manslaughter. Darby also known as Jeremiah was a labourer, he was 5'10" tall, his complexion: ruddy & freckled, hair: brown, eyes: light hazel, religion: Roman Catholic, education: read & write. He was assigned to Henry O'Brien of Yass. Jeremiah married Honora Hannon on 25th July 1844 at Yass, R/C. He died 3rd July 1891, Cooma Street, Yass, buried 4th July 1891, 11 children. He was the son of Thomas Barry,(occupation blacksmith) & Margaret Flynn. Hi, I am descended from James the brother of Lawrence and Darby. He married Sarah English and was the blacksmith in Cooma St in Yass. His son John (also a blacksmith) married Rebecca Pegram and their son Patrick Joseph was my grandfather. I have some details of the wider family and had heard that James had Laurence and Darby accompany him in transportation, for manslaughter apparently. had not got further back than James. Do I understand correctly from your last comment that James was the son of Thomas and Margaret?

Thomas Barry a blacksmith and Margaret nee Flynn were the parents of the convict brothers: Lawrence, James and Jeremiah aka Darby, also a sister Mary arrived in 1841 as an assisted immigrant with her husband Pierce Tracey, they went to Binalong to settle. Hi - another descendant here - i'm also a descendant of James via his grandson (if i'm reading the tree right) through Patrick Joseph, (b Yass 1888, died 1958 in Perth (married Lilian Averil Terry).

Hi new member here. am interested in the Pierce Tracey married to Mary Barry, arrived 1841. This should be my husbands g3 grandparents. Any information or contact would be greatly appreciated as this is the first time I have ever found anything on this side of the family.

NSW Police Gazette 25th March 1885 p90.
A mention was made of horses being stolen from a James and Jeremiah Barry of Galong near Binalong.

I'm related to Darby (Jeremiah) Barry's wife, Honora Hannon (married 25 July 1844, Binalong, witnesses James Barry and Mary Tracey). I have the following children for them:
James bc 1844
Thomas b 4 July 1845
Catherine b 4 May 1847
Margaret b 15 July 1849
Mary b 29 Feb 1852
Honorah b 27 July 1854
Bridget b 29 Nov 1856
Mathew c 1858
Ellen b 28 Sept 1859
Jeremiah c 1861

Darby's death certificate gave olace of origin as Ballycahill, Tipperary.

I'm also descended from Sarah Pegrem, nee Shea who was Rebecca Pegrem's stepmother. So I have some information on the Pegrems.

I am related to the Hannans and wonder if anyone knows where I could look to find out where Thomas Hannon and/or his son John Hannon worked on arrival in NSW? They weren't convicts so not as well documented.

I do have a wedding photo of Thomas & Ellen Barry, son of Darby, that was kindly sent to me. Happy to share if anyone wants it.

My grandmother was Agnes Jane Barry who was adopted by Thomas Hobson so grew up as Jane Hobson. When I tracked down her birth certificate her mother is Catherine Barry. I have some Barry Certificates if you contact me on colleen@firstlanding.com.au

My paternal grandfather's mother was a Catherine Barry, born some time in the 1840,s in south Australia from what I can tell. I have had no contact with that side of the family when they were alive, and there is no-one alive in NZ who can assist with the information. My Catherine eventually married a Frederick Mundy from the Geelong area, Victoria and they farmed near the Snowy River, someplace near Betebelong, inland from Orbost. I cannot fathom my Catherine Barry's relations or background. Wondering if this rings any bells or if it might be the Catherine mentioned as Darby/Jeremiah and Honora's eldest daughter? Or, any other leads?

I am descended from James Barry and Sarah English. Their daughter Bridget married Denis McNamara from County Clare in Ireland,in St Marys Cathedral in Sydney. Denis died in Gundagai in 1887, aged 41, leaving her with 4 children in Yass. Their eldest son, Michael Joseph McNamara enlisted with the New South Wales Imperial Bushmen in 1900, and served in the Boer War in D Company, as part of Lord Methuens bodyguard. At the end of his year's service he remained in South Africa and re-enlisted with the Cape Mounted Police, which later became the SA Constabulary, in Kimberley. He married Susarra Bosman, whose father, Izak Bosman, had fought for the Boers against him and was a veldkornet (officer) in the Jacobsdal Commando.Izak was killed in 1901 attacking the british Garrison in Jacobsdal. Michael Joesph and Susarra had a number of children. My father Patrick McNamara was the youngest, born on the Lichtenberg diamond fields in 1931. He married Patricia Rutherford, whose maternal ancestors are O'Keeffe's and Delaneys from County Laois in Ireland. There is now quite an extensive South African branch of this family. i would love to have more details about the Australian branch.

i am also a descendant of one of the Barry brothers, my grandmother was born Runic Barry (after the war ship in sydney harbour . she lived in paramatta in sydney married to les Whyte. would like to know more if anyone has any information. I have very little information on this side of my family.

I have recently joined this website and am happy to make available a 26 page chapter on the families of my great grandfather James BARRY, blacksmith, and his brothers Laurence and Jeremiah and his sister Mary Pierce.I want to see the products of my research go to people who are interested in it.This chapter is also currently being published in 3-4 sections in the Yass Historical Society Journal 'Boongaroon'.
