Lai who are Hakka ...

Journal by FelixTie

My maternal Grandfather is a Hakka who was born in KwangTung and moved to Kuching Sarawak.

One of my maternal uncles had got hold of the ancestral book from one of his uncles in Darwin.

The line traces back to the ShenYang, 1st Prince of Lai who was the brother of the 1st Eastern Zhuo Emperor, and this is more than 29 generations from Huang Di.

We are looking for the 61st to 64th generation - to fill in gaps in the family tree. My maternal uncle is 66th Lai generation.

It is interesting as the family genealogy goes back nearly 5000 years to 3000 BC, which many softward do not support that far back.

The Hakkas are the 'Guest People' of China.

It is said that the tribes originated from the Northern Steppes of High Asia - somewhere in present day Mongolia, and they migrated southwards; across China

Over the centuries, there have been 4 -5 major migrations.
Do check up on Wikipidia - it has quite a good write up

My great grandmother came to Sabah in around the year 1905.She was married to Lai Pan or called Sang Lu Pan.He died in China in 1800
He was a building contractor and an explosive expert. After he died many of the Lai Clan had to excape due to persecution by the other clan.As a result the wife Mary Lim and his children went to Borneo. The rest of the Lai Clan travelled to Kuching ,America,Australia and many parts of the world.
