Hi,

My name is Michael Foletti from Sydney Australia. I believe Joseph Foletti from Castlemaine was the brother of my Grandfather Jack Foletti who lived in Eldorado Vic (near Wangaratta) he passed away in 1970.
Their father was another John Foletti who was from Melborne lived to about 92 passed away in 1962.

their background was an Italian immigrant who lived on the Swiss Italian border and who's actual surname was Foletta as shown on an old Italian Tie we have made of beads with the family name on it. Apparently the Australian immigration officials got the name wrong hence Foletti and they never changed it again.

There are 5 foletti childeren in my family but I am the only boy as my younger brother passed away. I have a son Tyrone (21) who will hopefully carry the Foletti name on.

As far as any other male folettis I'm not aware of any.

let me know if you have any further info.

Mike Foletti

Hi Mike, My name is Julie Cugley (nee Foletti) My grandparents are the ones you talk about, My grandfather dec and grandmother are from Guildford near Castlemaine Victoria my father is Joesph jnr,. Desmond (dec) never married and never had any children.
Yes there is another male Mark (my brother) has a 15 year old daughter. He is still single but not knowing if he will ever have another child we don't know. I was hoping there was going to be a boy to carry on the Foletti name. I have heard of the family in Eldorado I don't ever remember meeting them, probabally did when I was young.
My grandmother Sue is still alive and will be celebrating her 100th birthday in april. My aunty Virginia has a book about the family, I am going to see the family in April so I will see if I can get a copy of it as I am interested in the family tree. If you have any more information about the family I would love to hear from you.
Regards Julie.

Hello Mike & Julie - my name is Lloyd McShanag and how I am related to you is through my mother and grandfather. My mother was Virginia Foletti, brother to des, Joe jnr and her father was Joe Folettie. All our history, as Julie has pointed out is at Guildford cemetery - you will see 5 generations from when they first came out to Australia for norther Italy. They are classed as Swiss Italians , the area and people from that area all call Ticino people of the mountains, as the village is called Locarno on the boarder of Swiss and Italy and a little village called gera is where they come from - there is a small church with a cementry- that has all our ansister’s dating back to the 15th Century. I have visited the area and have photos and there is also a book on the family as well. Joe jnr also had another daughter before mark called Sheryl- she live in bendigo and has children as well. The biggest loss from the family was the loss of the land the foletti had since they first came to Australia. I tried to save it when mum, and dad died - but the other siblings wanted the money and sold the land. It was 16 acres with ruins for the first stone building in Vaughn - just near Guildford. I am sorry i could not save it - i HD the money, but they just wanted to move on and it was out of my hands. I would also recommend to go to the Swiss ltailan feastival in daysford which worth going to, as it has a lot of our history. If you need contact please do on my e-mail lloyd@lloydfrank.com.au - as I have much more history and can help with questions. I live in Castlemaine just 15 mins from Guildford Regards Lloyd
