11 Jan 1884 Robert's father: At napier, on January 10th, Richard Sweetappe, aged 82 years. he funeral will leave his late residence, Tennyson-street, at 3 o'clock this (Friday) afternoon
9 July 1886 Robert's mother: At Napier, on July 9th, at the reidence of Mrs J. G. Gilberd, Ann Sweetapple, aged 75 years, relict of the ate Richard Sweetapple. The funeral wil leave Mrs Gilberd's residence, Dickens-street, at 2.30p.m. tomorrow (Saturday). Friends will accept this intimation
- Robert married Martha SHEPHERD (1856-1898) in 1878
20 Jan 1878 SWEETAPPLE-SHEPHERD- At St John's Church, Napier, on the 20th January, by the Rev H W St HILL, Mr Robert SWEETAPPLE to Miss Martha SHEPHERD, both of Napier. Home and China papers please copy.
- Robert ran a soft drink factory in Napier with his brother-in-law James Gilberd, who married is sister Harriet Mary Sweetappe in 1872. James Gilberd was an original founder with a Mr Budd. Robert bought Mr Budd's share and when James Gilberd died in 1912, Robert bought his share.
- In 1896 Robert made a claim for gold mining, at Whangamata
