Ling family of Hoveton

Article by carmartheatre

Hi,
Just found this site. I am looking into the history of the Lings who at one time farmed at Hoveton Norfolk. My mother was a Ling before she married and often used to tell me about Uncle Ben and her visits to Hoveton Old Hall. I have managed to begin sorting the family tree, but am getting a bit bogged down. Will post more later, Carolyn

There are a number of Lings in Hoverton. Just posts some names and approx dates of birth and someone may be able to help.

I know quite a lot about the family at Hoveton, but wonder if I have any living locally that may be related. My mother was Barbara Ling, daughter of Thomas Ling, born in 1868 at Hoveton, a Norwich ironmonger. He appears to be the only one in the family who did not go into something agricultural. Thomas' father was Benjamin Ling, born 1832 at Hempstead near Holt, son of Benjamin Ling, born 1794 at Tunstall Suffolk, both of whom farmed at Hoveton Old Hall.Benjamin senior farmed at Hempstead Hall prior to moving to Hoveton. The father of Benjamin senior was Edmund Ling who also farmed at Hempstead. I know quite a number of the Lings were buried at St Peter's in Hoveton, and others at Hempstead, but am getting a bit lost when we get further back and in Suffolk, where I know there are also a lot of Lings!!
