Ward Family in Grimsby

Journal by BerkVale

Looking for members of the Ward family who lived in Grimsby in late 1800s and early 1900s.

My grandmother Beatrice was born in Grimsby in 1880s (daughter of John Thomas and Ann Amelia Ward) Beatrice married Albert Corbett (also from Grimsby)and they moved to Sydney, Australia in 1922.
I can remember my grandmother writing to "Tot" her sister in Grimsby but I don't remember her talking about the rest of the family (think there may have been a younger brother??) I would like to communicate with any remaining family or at least find out about my grandmother's siblings.

I tracked down a photo of the grave of John Thomas (died 1929) and Anne Amelia Ward (died 1927)in Section 1 Cleethorpes Cemetery. The gravestone is difficult to read but it seems to show "our dear mother" so I assume there were a few siblings

Please do not hesitate to contact me - lbr@iinet.net.au. I live on the NSW Central Coast, north of Sydney, Australia

Hi markay

Thank you for the information you provided - it gave me more clues for searching. I assume that you have used Census records. I did a little bit of searching and found that John Ward was 52yo in the 1911 Census and his occupation was listed as "Chief Eningler on Framler" - I take it this means - Chief Engineer on a ship called the "Framler".

Still don't know who "Tot" is unless it was my grandmother Beatrices' younger brother Joseph who was 2 years younger. I think I will try and buy John Ward's death certificate and it will confirm the census records and maybe give a bit more information.

I think I will have to start paying for family history services and then will be able to get more info - e.g families of John Ward Jnr and Joseph Ward.

Thank you once again for your help and good luck with your own family history searching.
