* Clara Mary Lucena (1861-1937), daughter of William Lancaster Lucena (1830-1892), a prosperous settler of the Wairarapa, married Arthur (1849-1930) in 1879 on the edge of Lake Wairarapa, her father's principal station (and which Clara and her 7 siblings inherited). They had 6 children. Arthur was a Sharebroker, Financial Agent, Valuator, Land, Estate and General Commission Agent at 44 Lambton Quay. Prior to that, in 1877, he was appointed the manager of the BNZ at Te Aro. He was also the Chairman and Managing Director of the New Zealand Times. A Director of the Wellington Woollen Company, acting as attorney for absentees, held a seat on the Council of the University College and a Governor of the Wellington College and Girls' High School.
NOTE After the death of Clara's father ... Woodville Examiner, 18 Feb 1892 POST-MORTEM ORDERED. Special to the examiner, Masterton, This Day. An inquest is being held to-day before Mr Renall, Acting-Coroner, on William Lancaster Lucena, a large property owner, who died on Monday night and was to be buried this afternoon. Lucena was married a second time some years ago to his young governess (Ettie Anne Allard Maunder (1854-1950) in 1877). Three weeks ago he executed a fresh will in favor, it is believed, of his present wife. His death was very sudden, as he was knocking about the night before the occurrence and Dr Beard was only called in on Monday. The inquest is being held at the request of the members of Lucena’s family, by his first wife (Mary Clarke Vennell 1840-1876), who are dissatisfied owing to Mrs Lucena refusing to disclose the recent will till after the funeral. A post mortem examination of the body, by Drs Hosking and Bey has been ordered and solicitors have been engaged on both sides.
