Looking for Sutherland families from Caithness around 1800's.

Query by Tiffaney

Any thoughts plse get in touch.
My g.grandmother Christina Sutherland was born Dunbeath, 16 November 1838. On her death cert. her parents are listed as William Sutherland & Christina Sutherland formerly Sutherland.

At the age of 22yrs (1861 census in Wick Burg-Caithness)I believe she was a domstic servant with a Mr. Bain (House Proprietor) & family.

In 1867 she arrived in New Zealand on the ship "Lincoln" & married a year later in June 1868 from the home of a Mr Sutherland South Town Belt Christchurch, NZ., Mr William McLauchlan b. 1836 Perthshire, Scotland.
They farmed at Lincoln for a few years before going to Brookside Canterbury where their children were born. Their first son William Sutherland b. May 1869 died 2mths after his birth, Catherine (Kate) was born in July 1871, John born July 1873 and William Archibald Cook born in June 1876.

In 1891 they moved to Waterton, Ashburton, Canterbury where William had purchased 303 acres to which he added another 260acres . They called their property "Craigieburn Farm".
Slightest info. on Christina's parents or siblings keenly sought.
Thank you, Tiffaney

Would also like to add:

In some way Christina Sutherland was connected with Archibald Cook Sutherland who died in Christchurch, New Zealand, aged 40yrs & his wife Barbara Munro died also aged 40 abt 2yrs later. Their son went to live with Christina & William McLauchlan & went to primary school in Brookside, William McL supplying him
with clothing, shoes & school bag & books.

Archibald Cook Sutherland parents were William Sutherland & Janet Sinclair from Caithness. William (father) had died when Archibald Sutherland married in 1865 but his mother lived to a ripe old age in Caithness. He had a sister
Catherine who also came to Christchurch, New Zealand, unmarried, who died in 1909 & is buried with her siblings in the Addington Cemetery.

Would love to hear from any descendents too.
Would be over the moon to find out more.

Ever hopeful,
Tiffaney

Christina may be granddaughter of my ancestors James Sutherland and wife Mary Banks Sutherland of Rattar, Dunnet Parish, Caithness. Their 4 sons were John (b.5 Feb 1792), James (b. 3 April 1794), William (b. 20 Feb. 1797) and Alexander (b. 18 April 1800). This information came from www.familysearch.org.

William emigrated to England, married Hester HUGH in Bath in 1817, lived there with their 7 children until the 1840s when they all emigrated first to NY, then to San Francisco, then Sonoma CA. Those children were Caroline b. 1818; William, b. 1820; James, b. 1822; Emma, b. 1827; Edwin, b. 1831 - my maternal great-great-grandfather; Emily, b. 1833; and Fanny, b. 1835.

I'm guessing your Christina might be a granddaughter of John, James or Alexander Sutherland of Rattar, Dunnet Parish, Caithness.
