Looking for Carter of Amory MS

I am trying to research my family background and must admit I have not stayed in touch with anyone. To make a long story short I need all the help I can get and I don't have a clue how to get the information I need without paying for it.

I know that my family comes from the South and we are racially mixed. I would like to do a family tree for my grandchildren,it would be very important to them since I am the only grandparent they have.
