Hi,

I am searching for any information on my mother paternal grandmother's family. Her name was Mary Blessing (her family came from Orange, NY) and she married into the Nye Family in the Bronx. Mary Blessing had between 11 and 13 children; one of her children was my grandfather, Edward Charles Nye, a detective for one of the precincts in the Bronx not far from Gunn Hill Road where he and my grandmother Ethel Mackenzie (Nye) lived for about 10 years, perhaps longer. Mary Blessing also had a daughter, Elizabeth, who died at 7 years of age due to the Spanish flu outbreak. Another son, Dody, was also a policeman in the Bronx along with my grandfather. He was killed by a woman wielding a fireaxe. He had gone to investigate the screams of a woman coming from a third story level apartment building only to find out that it was a large woman yelling how she was going to kill (her husband). Very gruesome, indeed, but facts that might help me find the Blessing side of my ancestry. A geneologist once told me that it is known that Blessings and Nyes were known to have been closely allied for many generations.
