Susan.

I saw your posting requesting information on Lucien Rubinfeld and this is what I can provide:

1. I met Lucien and his mother Adela Rubinfeld in New York. They were distant cousins on my mother's side and since we lived in New York, my mother made contact with them around 1966.

2. They visited us at our apartment in Brooklyn numerous times. In fact you and your brother were on vacation visiting Lucien in New York and both of you visited us with him and your grandmother (and his wife who was American - if I remember her name was Eda or Edith).

3. Lucien had a store in the South Bronx selling men's clothing. I even remember getting some shirts from the store.

4. Lucien lived in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. It was East 4th, East 5th or East 6th Street near Avenue A or Avenue B. His mother had an apartment in the building.

5. You and your brother were from Nicaragua. You were a pretty girl with braces, at the time, and your brother was very handsome and I believe, at the time, was going to Medical School.

6. Adela Rubinfeld was in Pujaudran, France (about 30 km from Toulouse) during the war where she had a farm. I do not know much about her husband. My grandparents came to her farm where they baked Matzohs for Passover in 1943. I know this from my mother, Hilda Rudel, and my uncle, Chaim Rudel.

5. An American plane went down on 12th August 1944 near her farm in Pujaudran. The pilot was killed but the navigator, Lt Elbert Harris, survived. Adela Rubinfeld saved him. She gave him some water and took him to the Resistance where they hid him for 3 days until liberation on 15th August 1944 (this is all documented).

6. Lucien and his mother Adela were sponsored by Lt Elbert Harris for entry into the US in the early 1960's. I understand that President John F Kennedy interceded on their behalf on testimony of the navigator she saved.

7. We lost contact with Lucien in the 1970's. His phone number was changed and the new number was unlisted. By chance, I met him one time at the United Nations and asked him for a way to contact him (since my mother wanted to keep contact). He promised he would call us, but he never did.

He was a very generous man. He always brought me and my sister expensive gifts. He loved children.

I hope we can make contact. I live in Houston, Texas.
