Researching ST.John family london UK - Looking for the link..............

Journal by gingertrixy

HI I am a family tree researcher looking in ENGLAND - that is where my family are... I have been researching my family tree now for sometime. I have researched from my mother, whose mother was a St.John of battersea London. and they are all linked somehow to Lydiard Tregoze.. I do know that my grand-mother was most upset during the war of WW2 as everything was bombed and lost that she had... they call themselves the 'black sheep' line being polite - In the family history there has been talk of the family somewhere somehow linking to Charles I through family lines. I will be darned if I am at a brick wall - with the research.

Being limited to the Ancestry.co.uk records which almost stop with the 1841 census.. although if you have some info you can get some 1500 records ie christening - thats if you know the full name... relying on info from the internet which I may say is un-realiable to say the least i am stuck well and truely. The Web info some of it is very good - if you can read Latin- or read about info that is in-complete or well and truely muddled. I have also been researching the De Valer's and that info is So messed up with families in families that should not be I do not hold much hope of researching the ST.John's.

I am in hope that someone here is in the same predicament as me or can point me in the right direction to trace up... I have minimal input from the family now as the elderly are all gone. The youngers had not so much interest in the tree - and those that do can not be relied upon for info that is good to help with research - as a lot is hearsay. I do know that I am on the right track upto My great great Grand-father. The grandma's names are totally correct. There was talk of the family either being huginots and from France.. or the tregoze or Bletsoe line.. so you can see part of my predicament. Another point is that part of the family is the Upper class side if you like.. they hold the St.John crest ect and is handed down to the 1st boy....so it is now removed, removed, ect through family lines... so we now are quite distant.... from it....

I would be so grateful for someone pointing me in the right direction - books to look at - or sites i have not found? I have been to Lydiard tregoze in Wiltshire - it is now a lovely place... I have booklets ect..... I also know that part of the family had money taken from them for being against the King...that took over - they were royalists at one point - how true i do not know. I would love to be able to progress in my tree and find ascendants that I have no record of. At some point I should have a family tree from my mother's family.. there is diffculty with getting it too me right now - but it will get here in the end - I dont know how high it goes.... or whom is in it... I do know that one of the grandfathers was called ' the little frenchman' as a nick name -

thank you

sj

I look forward to hearing from anyone who can help me.
