He served in the Taranaki Militia during the NZ Wars and achieved the rank of Sergeant. I don't know when he arrived on NZ but he seems to have arrived well before his family.

I would appreciate anything abt James like photos, etc? I know he was awarded the NZ War Medal which is now in the Waiouru War Museum.
