Thankyou so much for that info .
Do you know Why John Vaughan Miller left his job as a Clerk at the Admiralty , at White Hall ? A Family Member thinks he was sent to New Zealand as a Remittance Man ? ......... Some thing to do with Drink ?

Is there any way of finding out if the above info is Try ?

apparently John wrote many, very detailed diaries about ... everything :)

it is all in the book "Reading On The Farm" written by Lydia Wevers.
I believe this book would be full of interesting info and can be bought on line

read here from the Wairarapa Times Age

meantime I will see what I can find out about his pre NZ life

Thankyou , Yes I have Lydia Wevers Book , Reading on the Farm , but it's his Pre New Zealand life that remains a Mistery to our Family . We have been told by a Family member that the Surname Before coming to New Zealand was
Vaughan-Miller , but this has since been proven to be Incorrect , as his Father was .......... Rev / Cannon , John Cale Miller ....... the Minister / Preacher & author of Sermons and Church Speaches ..... some of which we have ......... Plus we have the Family Tree .

you have a family tree ???

by ngairedith on 2011-12-16 15:28:06

you know then that his wife was Mary Ann Boydell ??, born in Cheshire, daughter of Francis BOYDELL (1810-1856) & Margaret HASSALL (1822-1853)

Ralph

Hello! We are distant cousins.
John Vaughan Miller's father was Rev John Cale Miller DD. You can read about him at https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Page:Dictionary_of_National_Biography_volume_37.djvu/428
if you haven't already. Also check out

Especially useful if you ever need a hospital in SE London.
I think that Rev John's father was also John, who also had a daughter Maria (Rev John's sister, and your several-times great aunt)
Maria Miller married Alfred Augustus West, and their son was Alfred Felix West, whose son Arthur Charles Miller West was my grandfather.
I have no evidence yet of the relationship between Maria and John, but I'll check through some old censuses when time permits.
