Henry Makings 1833 married Betsy Cooper nee Berrington 1827. They had 3 childred, Fanny Maria 1856, Samuel 1858 and James Henry 1869. Betsy had a child from a previous marriage, Ruth 1853.

In 1881 census there is Edith Annie Severn listed as grand daughter, There was only Fanny Maria and James Henry listed. Samuel had married and moved away from his parents.

Found a Marriage between Ruth and Isaac Severn in Mar 1873 in Basford, Notts. Edith Annie is their daughter

Albert (1865) and Ada Sturgess (1866) were married in Oldham, registered Sep 1885. Albert was born in Mscclesfield and Ada in Cheadle Staffs.

In 1891 or there abouts they moved to Salford, Gertrude birth was registerd in Chorlton in Sep 1890. Bernard birth was registed in Oldham in Jun 1896, Arthur birth was registed in Salford in Dec 1891. My Grand father, Edward was born in Ardwick, registered in Chorlton Jun 1902. I should know his date of birth, but can't put my hand on it at present.

In 1881 Albert was living with his sister, Mary 1856 and her husband Frederick Lees 1857 with brother George 1861 and Sarah 1869. Alberts father Charles 1822 died in 1874. I do not know eher his mother Hannah 1834, I can't find any record of her death. May be she was in a home.

My Grandfather Albert Smith was born on 4 February 1890 in Nottingham. Numerous searchs to find his parents ended in a deadend, until Janilye solved my query. A big thank you goes out to her.

The key to unlocking the names of Albert's parent came from a search looking for Frederick Smith (a known brother of Albert).

In 1851 census, Charles Birchenough 1822 and Thomas Birchenough 1848 are listed living with George & Sarah Beath and their daughter Ann, also living in the same houshold are Thomas Lowe, John Rothwell, Francis Wilshaw and William Wilshaw.

Charles is listed as Thomas's father.

I can not see any entry in 1841 for either Charles or Thomas.

Charles married Hannah Smith in 1852.

I have searched on Familysearch again without any luck.

Would like to find who are Charles's parents and who is Thomas's mother.

I have found Charles and Hannah Smith marriage in Maccelesfield Jun 1852. In the 1861 Census There are three children listed Thomas (1848), Mary (1855) and George (1851). I do not believe that Hannah is the mother of Thomas.

In the 1851 Census Charles (1822) and Thomas (1848) are living with George & Sarah Beath and their daughter Ann, also living in the same houshold are Thomas Lowe, John Rothwell, Francis Wilshaw and William Wilshaw.

Could Charles and Thomas be brothers?

Could their parents have died, if so wasn't their any family they could have lived with?

How can I find out their parents names?

I would like to share how I found a lost Uncle who had lost contact for over 34 years.

My Father enjoys walking and on occasions, when I visit my parents I would go along with him on his walks around Derbyshire. We often talked about his family and he would tell me about my Uncle Albert. I tried to gether as much information about him, but it was never enough to base a search on.

I had found that another Uncle had tried to find his brother without any luck and also his sister had tried to search for her brother and failed.

I stepped in and tried to gather as much information as I could. My Uncle Albert was in the Navy and was based in Portsmouth in the early 1960's. I remembered visiting them when going on holiday to the Isle of White.

There was a feature on Radio 2 where Jimmy Young would help to find lost family. I wrote as much as I knew and out of the blue I had a response from Radio 2 following details of my Uncle being read out on this feature.

My cousin was a taxi driver and by chance was listening to radio 2 when the feature was on and he responded. I rang my cousin that evening and although we had only seen each other acouple of time in the early 1960's we talk for over an hour as if we knew each other all our lives.

I found that my Uncle also wondered about his family and didn't know how to go about finding them.

My Uncle continued to live in Portsmouth from the 1960's. My cousin and I arranged to get our Dad's together and bring them together. We meet in a pub on Sunday, I took my Mum and Dad and we meet up with my Uncle, his second wife, his children from his first marriage and their children and grandchildren, there were over 50 of us for Sunday lunch. This was a fabulous reunion that I shall always remember.

I then arranged for a reunion with my rest of my Uncles, Aunties, cousin and their families to meet my Uncle from Portsmouth.

I draw up a family tree and pinned it to the wall, there were members of the family I had never meet such as second and third cousins. They were all eagar to add their names to the family tree.

Like with most families, there were break-up and family members not talking, which I was not aware of, but both attended the reunion and they found a way to put their differences a side and starting talking again.

Sadly my Uncle has past away, he would have never been forgotten, but meeting up again will ensure happy memories of the reunions.

In memory of my Uncle Albert 1925 - 2002

I was given a tip on Benjamin Lansdown parents from Ancestry.com. On verification I suspect this tip may not be true.

I have read with interest the article written about Ancestry.com on this web site.

I have Benjamin Lansdown born 1786 baptised on 10 September in Corsley, Wiltshire. The tip I was provided is his parent are Geroge Lansdown 1760 and Mary Weeks 1756.

I can not find any evidence that there is any connection between Benjamin and George. Further, George and Mary were married on 7 August 1797 at St Michaels, Bath.

On searching for children of George and Mary, I can find on child, Ann, born in 1790 with parents George Lansdown and Mary. Of course they could have had a child out of wedlock, but there could be another George Lansdown and Mary.

Can anyone spread any light on this for me.

Please can some one help me with what happened to Frederick. He was married to Louisa May Davenport (nee Irons) who died in 1951. I understand that Frederick travelled to New York, I guess this would be after his wife's death. I can't not find any any death record in UK for Frederick, so I guess he dies in New York.

One of my ancestors is Hannah Smith, the marriage of interest to me is to Charles Birchenough on 10 June 1852, however, it appears like the same person also married a Charle Moss on 28th June 1852.

I know Smith is a popular name and there may well be more than one Hannah Smith, but what are the chances of two Hannah Smith's with father John Smith living in Saltersford-cum-Kettleshulme and both marrying a Charles?

Any comments to relievemy sanity will be greatly appreciated.

I have a Sarah Ann Kirkham born 1835 in Nottingham. I know she married Thomas Chapl(a)in and had serveral Children. However, I can not find any marriage between them. It is possible that Sarah Kirkham married William Barnes in Sep 1849 and remarried John Thomas Chapl(a)in in Dec 1850. I can find a death for William Barnes in Dec 1849. What I don't know is this true. How can I find out?

I have a census for 1881 with Sarah as head, I understand that Thomas died before 1881, but do not know when.

I can not find a census for 1871 for Sarah or her children.

The childrens names are Joseph 1857, William ?? 1861, Thomas 1863 and Rebecca 1865. All the children I can find births for as Chaplain buy not for William only one I can find is Chaplin and registered in Radford where others are Nottingham.

Incidentally I can not find anything for Sarah Kirkham or Thomas Chapl(a)in for census 1861, 1851 or 1841.

Can anybody help me out here.
