Dear Marcii, Hi there. Regarding New Zealand genealogy, have a read of my journal below and/or look at the links. There's lots of free information available on the internet.

FAMILYTREECIRCLES - Genealogy in Aotearoa

Genealogy in Scotland, do a search in the top right-hand corner of familytreecircles, type in SCOTLAND and see lots of links, plus type in NEWBIES and FREE for other general good stuff.

Join up as a free member of Rootschat. Have the same username if you like so others can find you. You should be able to find your Scottish forbears through the Census years 1841 through to 1901. And then parish records and other good websites after that.

Best of luck,
Alison
AUSTRALIA.

Marcii, Wow. Here is data on Peter Seton Hay 1852-1907 at the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography.

Buried Karori Cemetery, Wellington, New Zealand, aged 55 years. Also, there's quite a few of them (HAYs) buried at Karori, Purewa, Whangarei, Andersons Bay, Hutt Valley.

Hi Marci,
I don't know if this will help alleviate the geneology pox but you might find it of interest. My Great Grandmother was Mary Ellen Hay. Peter Seton Hay's sister. She married Joseph McKnight I'm not entirely accurate on how many children they had but I do know that Mary Ellen died in child birth. There was my grandmother Dorothy and I believe she had a brother Joseph and a brother Charlie but wouldn't put money on it.
My grandmother Dorothy(Peters niece) married Leonard Henry Vance Drummond. They had six children
Frederick - pilot who died in scotland in 1941, Vance - pilot and wing commander of the black diamond aerobatic squad who died in a plane crash off williamstown airbase near newcastle nsw, Nelson - who was in the merchant navy, since passed
Elizabeth - held a senior position inthe nz government but had severely crippling arthritis and has since passed.
Robert(my father)who is living on the gold coast and
Diana - who was a teacher and then headmitress. Mary Ellen aparently was an artist and my aunty Diana has a few of her paintings. She also has many family photos. She will obviously have more family history that she can fill you in on as I know she has tracked the family history back til when they travelled to NZ.
She married Keith Wilburn and has four children, Vance, Michelle Suzie and Andrea,
When Mary Ellen died Joseph ended up marrying the house keeper I know they had children but i don't know how many but I do know they had a soon called David. My father told me that David has done quite a complex family history. Aunty Diana may have Davids contact details.
I wish you well in your search

Genseek

Hello Marcia
I am no relation to your Hays, mine were goldseekers in the Otago goldrush but in researching I have often come upon Peter Seton Hay. A wonderful resource is PAPERS PAST Just enter his name as up will come many stories re Peter as his career was a prominent one. I was also contacted by a lady a few years ago who had bought a photo album in a shop and I concluded it must be of your family. They were evidently very lovely photos but despite all my suggesions to her to contact your family members I don't think she did anything. Unfortunately I think I have long deleted her email but if discovered I will let you know .Cheers Gaynor gaynor.fotos@xtra,co.nz
