The Missouri Division of Vital Records (Missouri Vital Records) issues certified copies of Missouri birth certificates and Missouri death certificates for events which occurred within the State of Missouri. You may order copies of Missouri vital records through VitalChek on an expedited basis.
Missouri Vital Records only issues copies of marriage and divorce statements. Missouri marriage records and Missouri divorce records are maintained in the city/county where the marriage or divorce occurred.
Remarks: A valid/current government, school
or employer issued photo identification document of the applicant
is required before a search of the records will be conducted.
Requests that do not contain proper identification will be returned
unprocessed.
Options to obtain a certified copy:
Walk-In Service - Apply in person at the Bureau of Vital Records in Jefferson City or at a local health department;
Postal Service - When mailing a request for a vital record, include a legal size, self-addressed stamped envelope and check or money order for the search fee. Do not send cash.;
VitalCheck - Secured online applications to request for vital records, which accepts all major credit card payments, can be made through VitalCheck with an additional charge for their service.

Marriage records have been kept by Missouri county clerks from the earliest days of each county. Some records date from the early 1800s when the area was a territory without counties.
Statewide registration of marriage began in 1881, and the files are mostly complete after that date.

Divorce proceedings have been filed with a court of common pleas, a circuit court, or the state legislature. Most divorce records can be obtained by contacting the appropriate circuit court clerk in the county where the plaintiff resided.
