My name is George McCartney and I am researching my ancestors from Portglenone. The farthest back we have gotten is William McCartney, Unfortunately, we know nothing more than his name, that he was a shoemaker and that he had two sons, Andrew and Henry, both of whom were shoemakers. Since one of his sons was born circa 1803, William could not have been born after the mid 1780s.

The first son we know of was Andrew, married in 1853 to Esther Kelly. This was his second marriage. His age was 50; hers was 30. From this we assume he was born circa 1803. Andrew had a son, also named Andrew who was a tailor and married Caroline Hanna.

The second son we know about was Henry, a shoemaker, married to Ann McCaw in 1847.
