Alfred Charles Bailey,born Burghfield Berkshire 1833,died Fivedock N.s.w. 1894

Alfred Charles Bailey, arrived as an assisted immigrant December 1853,
via Herodfordshire. Listed aged 20, a miner,read and write C of E.
Married Ann Bendy nee Vidler,at St. John the Baptist Ashfield 1858.

Bailey and Vidler families of Fivedock N.s.w.

Alfred Charles Bailey,was born,1833 at Burghfield Berkshire,son of George,born 1805,Swallowfield Wiltshire and Elizabeth Smith born 1809 Berkshire.
He arrived 1853 via "Herefordshire", as an assisted immigrant.
Aged 20,a miner C of E,
In1858,at ST JOHN THE BAPTIST Ashfield he married Ann ELIZABETH Bendy nee Vidler, born Marylebone London 1837.
Ann had married Edward Bendy, a railway worker,who had arrived via "David Mc Iver",1853. Edward and brother Thomas were among 3 hundred passengers,all railway workers and their families,contracted to complete the Sydney to Parramatta railway. Edward was accidently killed at Newcastle 6-1-1856. A daughter, Elizabeth Ann was born August 1856.
Ann was the Daughter of George Vidler 1809-1875 ,who held the licence for the Fivedock hotel 1856-1875.
Alfred and Ann settled at Fivedock, purchasing 1 acre on the Parramatta road for 70 pounds in 1863. this property remained in the family until 1943.

Alfred and Ann had 10 children;

The Bailey's were quarrymen at Fivedock, owning a quarry at Abbottsford 1887-1898.

My grand father Edwin , sold the quarry 1898, later owned a dairy at Fivedock 1899-1911. My Father George 1982-1969,and his brother Charles 1888-1916 (k.i.a. Pozieres France 15-8-1916) operated a grocery shop at premises on the Parramatta Road 1907-1952

George Vidler 1809-1875 and Edith Elizabeth King 1806-1864

George Vidler,John1772(1) Edward 1752(2) George (3) married Edith King A.K.A Elizabeth,1834 at St Marys, Marylebone. In the 1841 census ,they were living at 1 Little North St. Marylebone. George listed as a groom, Edith as a laundress.

The family arrived Sydney via "Sarah" 1849
Whereabouts unknown until 1855 when George becomes licencee for the Cherry gardens Inn on Parramatta road.This was transferred to the Fivedock Inn 24-12-1856
On the death in 1875 of George, the licence was taken by his son-in-law James Donaldson. On his death in 1882, his wife Mary held the licence for a short period. Mary later relocated to Feilding N.Z. where her daughter Louisa alice Gould was living .

Richard William Whalebone

Richard Whalebone, was born in Southwark London 1834.
He was a silk hat maker at Bermondsey.
Richard arrived Sydney c. 1854,working firstly as a factory supervisor.
He later was a gold miner at Kiandra. He was to name his property at Bakers swamp near Wellington N.s.w.;"Rockley", after the gold mine.
Richard took part in one of the first droving trips to the Gulf of carpentaria c. 1866.
In 1864 he married the widow,Caroline Ryan nee Meyers (my gr. gr mother)
