Need info on my GGG grandfather John Smith. I believe he was born in 1766 in Green Cty PA and eventually settled in Monongalia County West Virginia. He owned land and a saw mill there. John died Dec. 22 1850 and is buried at Arnettsville, Monongalia WVA.
I am trying to gather any information about John Smith especially who his father was. Any information at all would be very helpful and very appreciated.
John Smith of West Virginia 1766 - 1850
My 4th great grandfather is John Smith. I believe he was born in Green County Pennsylvania about 1766. I have been using ancestry.com and created my family tree there. I am at a dead end finding who John Smith's father was. John Smith died December 22, 1850 in Monongalia County West Virginia. From what I have learned so far if it is correct, John Smith was married two times. In 1786 he married Elizabeth Davis and had 7 children. Then in 1816 he married Catherine Hess and had 9 children. John Smith is buried in Arnettsville, Monongalia, West Virginia.
My mother never married my father who was a Smith. She left him when I was 3 years old so I never knew any of my relatives on the Smith side of my family. I believe that someone that grew up in a close Smith family and who has a John Smith in their tree fitting the details above may be able to help me figure out who John Smith's father was.
