My ggggrandfather came first to Rose Hill Miss. around 1820 with his wife Martha Lytle. She died around 1831 leaving him to raise 5 young children. He married the widow of John McVea and together they raised her two young sons and his five children with Martha. They had one son Thomas C who was found in the late 1800's living with his wife and 5 children in Adairville, Kentucky. John Alan, son of John and Martha came first to Iberville Parish and married Odalie Braud. They resided in Ascension Parish and were the parents of Walter C Kernan. Walter's son Joseph Adam met and married Celeste Braud the granddaughter of Abel Braud who was the sister to Odalie Braud (above). The had Hubert Jennings Kernan my father.
I have been happily seeking other Kernans as some years ago it occured to me that we were the only Kernan family here. I wanted to know where we were from. I traced John Kernan from Ireland to Miss to Louisiana. John is from County Cavan, Irleand and records from existing wills show his brother Peter McKiernan still living there around the towns of Cloneary, Ray, Rosehill and Kilnavert. My grandfather had told me that our name was McKiernan and I found the proof. Peter had daughters also living in County Cavan who both married Donohoes in the Cloneary Ray area. I am trying to find some relatives there.

Thomas C. Kernan the son of John and Ellen McVea is found in 1910 in Oak Park, Illinois with his wife and 5 children. Any help locating them would be appreciated. aheart2serve@eatel.net my name is Cheryl Kernan Fontenot
