Leslie Ellison

Bio

Although born in Leeds to Matthew Stephenson Ellison who was a Linotype Compositor at the Yorkshire Post I was christened in Whitley Bay Northumberland where my maternal Grandparents John Wilson and Eliza Catherine (nee Hamblin) lived. My mother lived to 102 and I am doing well so far at 77. I went to Roundhay Scool Leeds suffered from asthma but still managed to play rugby (only reached second XV though in a school that produced 3 England Internationals)and to cycle considerable distances both in UK and Europe. Longest day's jouney was across France 180 miles in one day. I went to Birmingahm University (BA in Geography 1957) and became a teacher in Secondary schools until moving on to Teaching in a Polytechic later University of Sunderland (in Co Durham). I researched in Botany Dept at Durham University (MSc Ecology 1978). I Married Barbara in 1961 two children 1970&1972) Main interest now Photography, Travel, Painting and Gardening and of course playing football, chess and so forth with my grandchildren -all boisterous boys who beat me at scoring goals, getting nearest to the couchon in petanques, and at "eye spy" but I still win at chess. I can speak 4 European Languages so Barbara and I have got to some isolated places in Europe over the years. Early memory - World war II we got food parcels from relations in New Zealand and one of my mother's cousins came to visit us in Leeds as he was a NZAF officer at time of battle of Britain.
