Hi this is my first post and I am wanted to get some help in establishing the connection between the Riggs and Maxwell families in Scotland. The Riggs were mainly in the Kirkcudbrightshire and Dumfries area. I have a 1803 Robert Maxwell (Breoch) married Mary Rigg (Halketleaths) and here is additional information

Robert Maxwell married, on the 8th January 1803, Mary, the daughter of John Rigg in Halketleaths, by whom he had issue----

Any help please in establishing which John Rigg this is so I can connect it with my tree.

My RIGG line starts with James RIGG born 1765 Twynholm Scotland Died Highbanks Twynholm 1841 - his father was John Rigg Born about 1732 and his mother was Ann. His first marriage was to Margaret Breckenridge who died at Highbanks in 1789 - he remarried Grace Taggart in 1796 and there are 10 children. My direct line is with son John RIGG who came to Australia after marrying Isabella Campbell/McTaggart in 1838.

WILLIAM RIGG Tenant Farmer of Belgreddan Kirkcudbright

I am requesting help in establishing if a painting THE SPORTSMAN by Painter John Bowie is my relative or not.

The model for the portrait is William Rigg Tenant Farmer of Belgreddan Kirkcudbright by Painter John Bowie 1864-1941 (died Edinburgh) . Painting called THE SPORTSMAN. My William Rigg (1813-1892) was a tenant Farmer in this area at the right time and age of the person in the painting.

The painting can be viewed at http://www.artistsfootsteps.co.uk/artists_a_z.asp?ID=198%20&loadType=2

The Painter lived in Dumfries and exhibited at Royal Scottish Academy. His Old Dock, Jetty and Harbour Cottages in 1904 was exhibited, No 11 in the opening exhibition of the Harbour Gallery, Kirkcudbright, 1957 (in Stewartry Museum file on William Robson).Royal Scottish Academy from Kirkcudbright 1911-1912 and Thornhill 1921.

Can anyone help.

Thanks
