to william patrick and clara stein sheehan; he had two sisters, margaret,

and a brother who died at a young age, william patrick, jr.

the family moved to Hawaii in the 1930s where we descendants reside...

seeking Edward R Butler from Martha's Vineyard-came to Hawaii 1813-

E R Butler was living in Lahaina, Maui in 1820 when first New England missionaries
arrived...he provided them with lodging, food, etc...he is said to have been married
to a 'part-native' girl by whom he had 3 children. Do not know when he departed
Hawaii or when, where he died...or, anything re his children. He 'owned' land on
Maui and Oahu which he said King Kamehameha I had given him....

Researching families of Sandwich Island/Hawaii missionaries, 1820 from Boston ABCFM[American Bd of Commissioners Foreign Missions].

Amos and Juliette Montague Cooke arrived in Hawaii April 9, 1837 from Boston
aboard the Mary Frazier/Sumner; they were of the 8th Company of Congregational missionaries
sent from the ABCFM [American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions]....which still
maintains its headquarters in Boston, at 14 Beacon St.

By 1850 Amos Cooke and fellow missionary/passenger, Samuel Castle, had started the company
"Castle & Cooke" which is a worldwide firm today ...156 years later.

My interest lies with the missionary story and learning how it came to be that these
missionaries' sons' illegally took over Hawaii in 1893.....therefore, any knowledge re any of these families is of much interest.

Aloha from Maui where the research continues...
