The Raley Family on the Tidewater Frontier

The Raley name is new to us ..as it was changed in 1826 when Raley 's name spelling was changed to RILEY..In 2010 as I began researching and received the land grant for my ancestor..Given in 1826 to Henry Sylvestor Raley born 1785 in Md. and died 1829 in Perryville,Missouri. He married 2 times..One Jane Bubberly..Dates UNK and Barbara Nottingham.Born1765 in Maryland and died 1829 in Missouri..Henry came from St.Marys Maryland..and was the son of John Basil Raley b:1696 in St.Marys ,Md and died 1765St. Marys,Md..He married Mary Ann Joy.1741 in Indiana and died 1800 in Maryland..
note: some history states they lived rather off the beaten track and were hard to discover their geneology
NOTE:Per Col.John S. Riley's books "The Colonial Riley Families of the Tidewater Frontier"..There are three books all very informative of any Riley family in the U.S.and in the British Isles.
John Basil Raley is the son of Michael Raley born 1670 in SMC,Md and died 1738 in SMC,Md..He married Grace Greenwell Born1775 in Md. and died 1730 at SMC,Md.
The father of Michael Raley is John Raley Born 1653 SMC,Md Died 1701 in SMC,Md..He married Margaret Ploumer Born 1650 in SMC,Md..and died 1698..
The father of John Raley born 1653 is Michael Raley born 1625 in Devon,England Died 1714in SMC,Md
He married Ann Nevitt..bornAbt 1625 in SMC,Md died 1698 in SMC,Md..
Apparantly the father of this Michael our immigrant..is Sir Knt. John Raley..He took the name of his wife Emma Darrell..to inherit her inheritance which was the castle..Beckenham.in Devon,England andother land..John Raley Darrell..line stops here ..The Darrell line continues. It is not sure if she was the mother of our Michael or a step mother..I believe she was the mother ..but Michael chose to use his Raley name..There is no further proof of this..
The fact our Raley men married ladies from very high born families tells me they were also of that breed..Which has been proven to me by the acts of my father..Geore William Riley..a most honorable and loving man has never existed..I hope this helps some Raley families searching..The Raleys were very private people wanting only to live their lives in happiness and with love for their families...
Another book about the Raley family after their move to Missouri from Maryland .. is "Maryland Catholics on the Frontier" by Fr. O'Rourke
Michael Raley came over in about 1634..It is thought he came as indentured..but became a huge land owner after just five years..
