Bush Advocate, 24 September 1907 KNIGHT - On the 24th inst., at his residence, Rawhiti street, William Knight, aged 83 years
We regret to have to record the death of Mr William Knight, which occurred at his residence, Rawhiti street, to-day. The deceased had attained the great age of 83 and though his health had been failing very much of late, the end came somewhat unexpectedly. The late Mr Knight was a native of Warwickshire, having been born at Old Milverton, and about 40 years ago he arrived in the colony with his wife and family of young children. After spending some time on the Auckland goldfields, the late Mr Knight, who came from a family of yeoman, settled down to farming pursuits at Mangateretere, near Clive, where he remained for many years. In 1893 he took up his residence at Dannevirke, so as to be near his sons and daughters, and here he remained until his death. The late Mr Knight was a man of sturdy, upright character, and held in the highest respect by all with whom he was brought into contact. His wife predeceased him some eight years ago, and he is survived by two daughters:-
* Mrs E. Robertshawe, of Dannevirke daughter Augusta (1853-1937) married Rev Edward Robertshawe (1857-1917)
* Mrs Branting, of Christchurch daughter Ellen Theresa married Carl Gustaf Teodor Branting in 1886
and by four sons, viz.,
* Mr W. F. Knight of Tahoraite William Frederick (1847-1920)
* F. J. Francis John (1852-1922) and H. D. Herbert Douglas (1859-1933) Knight of Dannevirke
* Mr B. L. Knight of Utiku Benjamin Leonard (1856-1942)
These will all have the deep sympathy of many friends in their bereavement. The funeral will take place on Thursday
Bush Advocate, 26 September 1907 The funeral of the late Mr William Knight was held this afternoon, at the early hour of 1.30, when despite the inclement weather, a number of settlers from norther Hawke's Bay, as well as the many friends of the family in the immediate district, were present. The funeral service was read by the Rev E. Robertshawe. A large number of wreaths and floral emblems were forwarded by sympathising friends
