George b March 1849 married Phillis and had 4 children

Jane b 1851 Berwick married Hugh Burns b 1855 Kelso. Had 11 children - the eldest being husband's Grandad.

We have managed to find some descendants of these people - mainly Agnes, Anne, Robert and William. They have spread throughout the Uk and abroad but it would be great to find some more

Does anyone have any links to this family at all?

Looking forward to hearing from anyone

Thanks for reading

How long have you been researching?

I just wondered how long everyone has been researching their Family Tree.

I started about 10 years ago when my Dad was doing his side. I decided to do my husband's family which turned out to be a lot harder than I thought it would be. We had no info for his parents except their birth dates - no places of birth.

After many months of searching and going down many wrong roads, I eventually got the correct family. With his father's side we have a direct line back to 1815 (husband's Great Great Grandfather born Ireland) and can take his Great Grandmother's line back to 1478 in Scotland. His Mother's side can go back with direct line to 1780 in Scotland and with her mother's side only 1860 as the family originated from Goa.

I also took over for my Dad's side as well as my Mum's side and have got back to 1780's with both sides in Wales.

I have a total of nearly 2900 people now compared to the 50 we had when I started but that covers both sides of the family. The tree covers 18 generations.

With a bit of help, patience and the Internet I have managed to find family we didn't know existed.

So how long have you been searching and how many wrong roads have you taken?

Thanks for reading

Me, My Family and mine

Hi everyone

I am Carol Burns nee Thomas. I was born in April 1960 in St david's Hospital, Bangor North Wales and lived in Ty Croes , Anglesey with my Mum and Dad.

In 1964 we moved to York with dad's work and my sister was born in Oct 1964 followed by my brother in July 1972.

My Mum is Mair Owen b Anglesey and my Dad is Kenneth Gordon Thomas b Bangor

I started doing my family tree about 1996. My dad was doing his side so I decided to do my then husbands side as he didn't know of any relatives that were still around. His Dad had died when he was 4 and his Mum died when he was 10. He has 3 brothers and 2 sisters but none of them remembered much about other relatives especially Grandparents.

I started with his dad's birth date and went from there. I have since managed to find his dad's siblings and their children as well as going as far back as his Great Great Grandad in the direct line and back to 1478 with his Great Grandmothers family. There seem to be cousins popping out of the woodwork all the time now even thoughit has taken 9 years of searching constantly for them. Have you ever tried searching for Burns or Turnbull in Northumberland? lol Not easy at all.

I then started on his Mum's but have not been able to get too far back as the family were from Burma and not Military but we have managed to get back to 1780 with his Mum's Dad's family so that is good enough for me. Still more to find yet from that side

My dad asked me for help on his side and I corrected a few mistakes with a lot of researching but we now seem to have got a lot further back than he had on his own. My Mum's side has also been incorporated and this has gone back to 1800's Again the problem has been the names - Owen, Griffith, Thomas and Jones all in Anglesey

But, luckily I love a challenge and this is one challenge that cannot be completed. I think this is why I have lasted so long at it and enjoy it so much. I get plenty of brick walls and go for months with nothing found at all but then all of a sudden they appear from nowhere and I am back on the path again

I would love to be able to say that I have a long list of other hobbies but I can't as I do not have time for other hobbies except reading.

My tree, compared to many other peoples, is small at 6000+ people but it is an achievement for me as I have had to work hard to find those I have.

I am classed as an "anorak" wearer by many but do I care? I don't think so. I'm happy with census images and birth entries to look through. Never mind your magazines about celebrities and what they have been doing - I would rather find out about our own celebrities (our ancestors) and what they had been doing

Thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing about you all

John Price b 1821 Liverpool - Accountant for Brewery

I am trying to find more information on my Great Great Great Grandfather John Price

John was born in Liverpool in 1821. His parents names are Edward Price and Dorothy Parry married 1820 Liverpool.

John married Catherine who was born in 1820 in Llanfaelog. The marriage was 12 May 1845 Liverpool

John and catherine had 10 children that I know of

In 1851 I have found them on the census living at 6 Garden Street, West Derby, Liverpool. John was an Official Assigners Clerk

In 1861 they are living at 7 Squires Street,West Derby, Liverpool and he is a Brewer's Clerk

In 1871 they are living at 54 Vine Street, Abercrombie, Liverpool and he is a Commercial Clerk for a brewery

In 1881 they are living at Rose Villa, Litherland Park, Liverpool and he is a Brewer's Clerk

In 1891 John is a widower and he is living with one of his son's, William and family at 105 Salebury Road, Wavertree, Liverpool. He states that he is a retired Brewery Manager

In 1901 John is still living with son William and family but they have moved to 68 Arundel Avenue, Toxteth Park, Liverpool. His occupation is down as General Manager for a brewery.

John died between October and December in 1904. Catherine died in 1883 in Toxteth Park

John and Catherine had the following children;

Elizabeth born abt 1842, married William Thomas b 1841 Llechylched - Blacksmith

John born 1843 Liverpool, married Ann born 1841 Ireland. They had three children - Catherine 1866, Ruth 1870 and Thomas 1868

Jane born 1846 Liverpool, married ?? King and had daughter Mary Catherine born 1868

Harriet born 1848 Liverpool

Catherine Ann born 1850 West Derby

William Edward born 1852 West Derby, married Mary 1854 Conway and they had one daughter, Elizabeth 1878

Charles Napier born 1854 West Derby, died 1920 Birkenhead. Charles was also an accountant for a brewery possibly the same one as his father John. In 1891 he lived at 5 Belmont Road, Wallasey but in 1901 he lived in Toxteth Park. No occupation was given in this census.Charles often visited his sister Elizabeth in Anglesey and visited Elizabeth's daughter Catherine when she lived in Clwt Y Bont, Caernarvonshire

Robert born 1856 Liverpool

Dorothy Grace born 1858 Liverpool

George born 1862 West Derby

I have been unable to find any census with Elizabeth living with this family though it is the right family. I first found them on the 1881 census and Charles Napier is the common link between the family in 1881 and Elizabeth and her children so I know they are the right ones. Elizabeth and Williams marriage cert also state John Price, Clerk as father.

Does anyone have any ideas how to find more info on Catherine and her parents?. Her father was William Roberts and at the time of the marriage in 1845 he was abrick layer and still living. I have no idea whether he would have been in Llanfaelog where Catherine was born or in Liverpool

Looking forward to hearing from anyone

Thomas family of Anglesey

I have been researching my Father's side of the family and this is as far as I have got though I would like to go further back if possible or even come forwards and find a few more living relatives

My earliest ancestor on this side is William Thomas born about 1810 in Llanfechell, Anglesey. He married Margaret Jones who was born in 1803 in Llanfaelog, Anglesey. William was a Blacksmith.

They had 3 children - Owen born 1833 Llanrhyddlad, Margaret born 1839 Llechylched and William born 1841 Llechylched

Owen married Eleanor Williams born 1835 Llechylched. She is the daughter of Edward Williams , a silk weaver and Anne. Owen and Eleanor married in 1855 in Llechylched and had 8 children. Owen was also a Blacksmith and they lived in Ceirchiog, Anglesey

All I know of Margaret is that she was a dressmaker. I know of no marriage

William is my direct ancestor. He married Elizabeth Price born 1842 Liverpool. Elizabeth is the daughter of John Price born 1821 Liverpool and Catherine Morris (possibly her name) born in 1820 in Llanfaelog. John Price was an Accountant for a brewery in Liverpool. William and Elizabeth married in 1864 in Holyhead and they had 6 children. William was also a Blacksmith in Llanfaelog and they lived at Ty Newydd

Catherine born 1865 in Holyhead. She is my Great Grandmother. She married John Williams born 1872 Llangristiolus, Anglesey

Elizabeth was born in 1867 in Aberffraw but died in 1870

William was born in Aberffraw in 1869 and married Mary Ann Jones. They had 5 children and lived in South Wales. Children were David Morgan Jones b 1891, Maggie C born 1893, Lizzie jane born 1894, Owen b 1897 and William born 1902

John James was born in Rhosneigr in 1872. he married Mary Williams who is the sister of John Williams. John James eventually went to Colwyn bay where he built 3 streets and named one after my Father - Kenneth Avenue (still standing in Colwyn Bay).

Owen was born in Aberffraw in 1875 but died in 1893 in Holyhead. This was due to a shipping accident.

Margaret was born in Llanfelog in 1877. She had a son Owen Edward born in 1904 in Rhosneigr. She then moved to Penmaenmawr and married John Morris. We have met the son of Owen Edward.

Catherine and John Williams moved to Bangor,Caernarvonshire and they have 9 children

Elizabeth Catherine born 1892 Holyhead
William John born 1895 Llanfaelog
Anne jane born 1897 Llanfaelog
Owen Thomas 1899 Lalnfaelog
Charles Napier 1901 Llanfihangel yn nhowyn
Emma Maud 1904
Thomas Hynes 1906 Bangor
Charlotte Amy 1908 Bangor
Mary Elma 1910 Bangor

Catherine also had a son before her marriage to John Williams in 1891 - Robert Thomas was born in Llanfaelog in July 1889. His father is unknown but we do know that he moved to Holyhead and married and had at least 4 children.

Mary Elma is my Grandmother and she married Hughie Gordon Thomas born 1913 Llandeiniolen, Caernarvonshire. They had 3 children - Sheila, Elizabeth and my father Kenneth Gordon Thomas born July 1935 in Pensaerwen

Now I am hoping that somewhere out there are some relatives of Robert's or even John James or even some of my Grandmothers siblings.

Does anyone have any links to this family or even the smallest bit of info?

I look forward to hearing from you all

The Davidson Family - From Scotland to Burma and beyond

My mother in law is Beryl Pansy Davidson. She was born in April 1925 in Maymyo, Burma. She married James William Burns born 1916 Amble, Northumberland. They married in July 1941 at the garrison Church in Maymyo. James died in 1966 and Beryl died in 1971 in York

Beryl was better known as Pansy and she had 10 brothers and sisters. Two sisters and one brother are still living - one in Australia and two in the UK.

Beryl's parents were Robert George Davidson and Florence Leonara Hutchinson Lopez.

Florence was born in 1901 in Yamethin, Burma to Frank Bruno Hutchinson Lopez and Agnes Morton. Frank worked on the Railways as an Inspector. George also worked on the railways and this is how he met Florence.

Robert was born in 1892 in Shulapoor, India. He was the youngest of three sons to William Davidson and his wife whose name we think is Isabelle. His brothers were William Hugh born 1887 and james born 1890 but died in 1894. William Hugh went on to marry Adelaide Genevieve Hutchinson Lopez - the sister of Florence. They had 8 children.

William Davidson was born in August 1856 in 28 Dean Street, Edinburgh. He was the youngest child of four to William Davidson and Elizabeth Rankine. The other children were John Davidson Davidson (no typo) born 1848, Alex(ander)Davidson born 1853 and George Rankine Davidson born 1861 all in Edinburgh.

The family have been found together on the 1851 census but only William senior, Alex and William can be found in 1861. They cannot be found later though we know William senior died in 1869 and Elizabeth in 1889. I have been unable to find a marriage for William (1856) and Isabelle so there is the possibility that he married in India and was not in the UK in 1881.

William (senior) was born in 1816 in Blair Atholl in Perthshire, Scotland. He married Elizabeth Rankine in 1846 in Edinburgh. Elizabeth was born in 1826 to George Rankine, a butcher and Mary Caw.
William was a Hackney Coachman and in 1851 they were living iat 22 jamaica Street, Edinburgh. He died in Nov 1869 of Broncho - pneumonia. Elizabeth died in 1889 of Lung and Heart disease.

William was the son of John Davidson and Catherine Cumming. John was born about 1790 in Blair Atholl. He was a Street Porter for cabs in 1861 at the age of 71. He lived with his son Donald ( born 1818) and family. This is also where William and two of his sons were living in 1861. Catherine was the daughter of Donald Cumming and Katharine. She was born in Jan 1796 in Blair Atholl.

I have been unable to locate any records for marriages or births in India or Burma and family still living are in their 70's and 80's making recollection of memories hard. Does anyone have any ideas about how I could find out anything in these two countries. I don't think William (1856) was military so there is no way of finding him in military records.

The photo is of my in laws James William Burns and Beryl Pansy Davidson on their engagment.

Thanks for reading and looking forward to hearing from anyone with links to this family or info
